The Baltic. The freedom of the open sea. Amber, the gold of the shoreline. Forests. City. Tobacco traders & tanneries. Plum, honey, saffron. Golden warmth. Leather, sandalwood, earth. And ambergris - the mystery of the dark deep sea.
Gdańsk, the perfume, is an exploration of mysterious ambergris, of sperm whale fame, and the fantasy accord we know as amber.
Notes: plum, saffron, leather, tobacco, amber, ambergris
Perfumer: Julia Rodríguez Pastor
Why you'll love it
Gdańsk, a Polish port city on the Baltic Sea, is known as much for its nautical grandeur as it is for the precious nuggets of amber mined in the area. It’s fitting, then, that "Gdańsk" by Gallivant retells the history of amber perfumes — which blend resins and vanilla to evoke the gemstone’s sepia deliciousness — with cheeky twist of ambergris, the natural material derived from whales that ages into subtle saltiness on the open sea. Its opening is a sultry, fruity tobacco, purring like a saxophone, thick like honey poured from the bottle. Feathery tones of incense soon billow in like the morning fog, as a delicately musky sweetness glows like a lighthouse from across the harbour. Gdańsk is ornate and open-hearted, wrapping a softly smoky quilt around the wearer, while pulling you in like a fast-paced mystery novel. Easy to wear, easy to love, with the offbeat seafaring melancholy of "The Life Aquatic"; it's also, maybe surprisingly, dead-sexy.
