Why you'll love it
“Encelade” is named after a moon of Saturn, which was itself named for a figure in Greek mythology. This moon is shockingly blank; a pure, a snowy expanse wrinkled like a homemade ice cube. But Enceladus, its mythological namesake, was a warrior Giant who fought the Gods. So fearsome was his reputation that his fabled resting place under Sicily’s Mount Etna was used to explain the volcano’s tremors and eruptions. It was this balance - between serenity and violence - that groundbreaking perfumer Quentin Bisch set out to strike as he dreamed up this third entry into the unique olfactory universe of Marc-Antoine Barrois.
This scent is more rugged and sensual, but no less polished, than their other creations. Wearing it feels like gazing onto a rocky, jagged landscape, brooding with silence; like camping in an Airstream trailer on an alien planet. Piles of glinting, mineralic vetiver lay everywhere, unruly sculptures as far as the eye can see. The brand’s signature note of leather registers whisper-soft above, a seamlessly upholstered atmosphere. Strewn on the ground, stumps of atlas cedar have been worn smooth like grey quartz, while tonka and sandalwood form a nut brown layer of buttery clay around them. An arresting, bold and wildly unique new scent which breaks new ground for vetiver, bringing classics like "Terre d'Hermés" screaming into the future (or the ancient past). For the most rebellious - and serene - among us.
