“Cuir Velous” is a soft, generous, langorous take on leather. It still has the perfectly-tailored drama the house is adored for, but, to us, the immortelle opens up a window onto a sepia-toned fruity sparkle, all long shadows and golden sun. Like a nugget of orange amber resin carved into facets like a comically-large diamond, what could be intense and brooding in the hands of another house has become coyly, luxuriously playful. Is that a subtle whiff of lipstick hiding cheekily behind its haute facade? Is this leather designed for wearing or for more… ornamental purposes? This fragrance feels like spending a morning in bed, if the bed was in a wildly luxurious pied-a-terre somewhere exotic, hard to reach, even forbidden.
