The newest fragrance from Naomi Goodsir is just as uncompromising as you'd expect. However, for such a deep, bold scent, “Corpus Equus” feels brimming with electrifying movement. At first sniff, it gives an unusually vivid recreation of a freshly cleaned leather saddle. There is wood, maybe something akin to tree sap or fresh rubber, and a unique animalic accord that feels less velvety and heavy than it does wakeful and alive. The impression is definitely rustic and intense; this is not a classic or restrained perfume by any means. But it is also polished, elegant in its austere simplicity, and even, in a strange way, refreshing. Lacking the usual window dressing of spice, resin or sweetness, “Corpus Equus” is a photographic, almost industrial leather that blurs the line between racehorse and racecar. It certainly feels like it could bestow upon the wearer the muscular power of either. This untamed, bracingly original scent is perfect for blazing new trails.
